Reminisce by Nick Kel
“Come on, let's go!” I remember him saying, “The park isn't too far!” “A-are you sure it’s safe? What if we’re n-not back to Ari’s house in-time?” I’d say. “Oh come onnn, what’s the worst that could happen?” he replied. He knew what could happen; I knew what could happen. Pretending to be bliss in a situation like this was stupid. I wish we didn’t go.
“Haha! Higher!” he shouted on the swing as I pushed him. “I dunno how higher I can– how higher I can…” I said, but my voice trailed off. The clouds in the sky were getting thicker. “W-we should go back. Back now!” I shouted. “Oh come on. One more push?” he asked with puppy eyes. Oh my stupid child heart.
One more push became one more slide; one more jump; one more climb. By the time we were done with our fun in the deserted park, the sky was almost a full dark blue. “Dark Blue is Taboo”, Miss Ari would say. “W-we n-need to go right n-now! Back now!” I cried. “Okay, okay” he said, embracing me. Such warmth; I miss it.
As we were walking hand in hand, we’re abruptly stopped. Oh the deep fear you could see in my eyes. “What are you two children doing out here now?” a tall man asked with a scary grin. Another man that was standing next to him started to talk, “Well you know our orders. Now come here kids” He reacted towards my arm to grab it and I remember closing my eyes.
All I remember after that was hearing screaming; not just my own.
I wish we just stayed inside. We’ve would of been safe. We’ve would of had a future! But no, we had to be stupid children. Stupid, stupid children…
